Biometrics Scientist

My passion in life is helping others through technology. I believe that can be done by making computers smarter, and technology more widely available. For me, Nymi represents this next step. I am a Biometric applications scientist with a PhD in Computer Science from the University of Toronto. When I’m not working on the Nymi Band I’m practicing my Muay-Thai or dancing Tango. Associate Product Manager

I joined Nymi for the challenge of bringing a revolutionary product to market and the opportunity to be a part of an awesome, motivated team. I started out studying Nanotechnology Engineering at the University of Waterloo. My co-op jobs took me all over: from the energy sector, to international policy, to chemistry and healthcare. My capstone project, building a portable biosensor, sparked a passion for designing and marketing consumer products. Both in and out of the office I love exploring, be it DIY projects, travelling, adventurous sports, or teaching myself a new skill.

Software Developer

The first time I programmed a computer was in grade 10 – I was hooked instantaneously. For my thesis in my final year of Engineering Science at U of T, I worked on a program that would analyze music and compose songs in a similar style. After graduating, I worked as a compiler developer for IBM. A year later I started working for myself as an iOS developer. But making great things is hard, and you need a great team to do it. That’s what brought me to Nymi. When I’m not developing, I compose, play, and listen to all sorts of music.

Nymi is clearly one of the most exciting start-ups in town. Its technology and products will change the way people perceive security and identity, forever. For last 15 years I was developing mobile products and wireless communication solutions, so it was totally natural for me to join the team that works on the Nymi Band. I’m truly excited to be at the cutting edge of wearable and security technologies. My passion outside of the work is mountain biking, canoeing and hiking with family and friends.

I’m an entrepreneur at heart. After receiving my Master of Applied Science from the University of Toronto, I co-founded the green energy start-up ARDA Power. Although I applied to be an astronaut for the CSA, my passion for electronics and technology led me to Nymi. While interested in all things ECE, I love tinkering with FPGAs, micro-controllers and hacking old video game systems.

I have had a passion for new technology since high school. I’ve always loved learning about the latest technological innovations, and I’m always looking to find out how everything works. One of my main reasons for joining Nymi is to use my skills in validating the Nymi Band, making it one of the most reliable devices on the market. Before Nymi, I worked at AMD Inc. as a Systems Test Validation Engineer, where I tested and validated embedded and graphics processors. In my free time I’m an avid gamer.

Senior Manager, Accounting

After having been an auditor and accountant in the mining industry, I really wanted to come to work everyday at a company that embraces and seeks to create meaningful change in the world, and the passionate and infinitely talented team at Nymi does an amazing job of building disruptive technology to simplify everyday life. The possibilities for the products Nymi is making are endless; I’m so proud to be a part of the team and can’t wait to see what we build next. I completed my B.Comm at Queen’s University, obtained my CPA, CA designation in 2008, and most recently obtained an MBA from the University of Oxford, focused on social enterprise. My nature is to find the best solution and use it to help the most amount of people. Consequently, I obtained my Aerospace Engineering Degree so I could engineer better designs. I became a semi-pro wedding photographer so I could help people capture their special day. I’m working towards my Somelier Certification so I can help people get the most out of their eating experience. I’m a Professional Project Manager, or PMP, because I can help teams get to where they need to be. With the Nymi Band, it’s especially important to me to help the team because to me the Nymi Band is more than a product, it’s a solution to what so many deserve and frankly don’t have enough: convenience and peace of mind.

Moving humanity forward is what excites me and gives purpose to everything I want to accomplish. Technology is perhaps the most important tool for that and so my fascination with it led me to seek my undergraduate degree in Electrical Engineering from the University of Windsor, build world class e-commerce and mobile communication products at IBM and BlackBerry, and now to Nymi. My mission here is to build the best platform for developers to shape the future of personal identity. I also create music, write, and paint to make life more round and colourful.
